About Katherine Wright LMHC

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington. I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Global, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I got my Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Hendrix College back in 2010 and I have another Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Tulsa. I interned with BHR’s Harvest Program. As well as my private practice, I also currently work at Northwest Resources as a mental health counselor, where I work primarily with individual clients who pay through insurance.

I’ve lived in Lacey for over 5 years. I’ve got two kids and a husband. Therapy is my second career. I used to be a software developer and then I spent some years raising my kids. In my spare time, I read (particularly fantasy and about therapy), have an ever-shifting parade of crafting-based hobbies, and write. I enjoy video gaming, board gaming and tabletop roleplaying and I have some ideas in my head about starting some therapeutic roleplaying, either with groups of strangers, or with couples. So let me know if you’re interested in that.

As a counselor, I hold hope for and see the best in my clients, even when you cannot see it yourself. I balance that by respecting that change is difficult. It takes time and trust, and it has to be freely chosen if it is going to last.

I am primarily informed by Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT), believing that oftentimes the problem in our life isn’t actually our problems, but the things we do to try to avoid problems, both internal and external. Instead, finding and living by our values, even when it makes life more difficult, makes life more worth living. I consistently read about doing therapy better and integrate what I’ve learned to make the treatment better suit you and what your unique needs are.
